AUGUST 22, 2008 - 8 ex-Governors, 3 of whom do not work for the City, and 2 others who are not even EAA members, are stumping for SEIU. Why have Phil Reed, Dick Platkin, Susan Bok, Sami Wassef, Steve Hutchinson, Tim Lawani, Yadollah Hashemi, and Farsheed Farhang jumped in bed with SEIU?
Just like SEIU:
- Reed, Platkin and Hutchinson don’t care how badly you are hurt by SEIU, they
do not work for the City of Los Angeles and won’t feel the ill effects.
- Neither Bok nor Farhang are members of EAA!
- These Ex-Governors misspent EAA member’s money for things like attending a CESO convention in Australia, pleasure trips out of town, “retreats” for themselves and their friends at resorts, etc.
- Sold you management contracts like the infamous 0% 0% MOU of 1993/1995.
- Allowed the city to develop the wage disparity between DWP and city employees without ever lifting a finger to address the issue.
- Used their positions on the Board for personal gain and advancement at the expense of the members.
- Bankrupted EAA to the point that it couldn’t even pay its bills and left the mess for the current Board and staff to clean up.
- Authorized the issuance of lucrative contracts to staff relatives, paying out thousands of dollars of member’s dues money to them for substandard products and services.
- Kicked Sami Wassef out of his elected Board position because of “misuse” of his President’s position. (They've now joined with him!)
- Hutchinson used his President’s position to try to sell EAA to IFPTE for personal gain.
- They tried on 2 different occasions to significantly increase your monthly dues to pay for their shenanigans.
- Bok, Hashemi, and Platkin used the Government Action Committee (GAC) to spend members' dues money on their personal political issues.
- Hashemi has carried a personal grudge because he could not convince more than 47 members to vote for him in his last election.
- Reed, Platkin, Lawani, Bok, and Farhang used their Governor positions to obtain promotions for themselves at the expense of EAA members.
- Did not join the County Federation of Labor or any other labor organization to promote solidarity between unions.
- Hutchinson signed the IUPA affiliation as President of the Board.
- As a group, just like SEIU, they are elitists that look down their nose at normal EAA members and believe you are too stupid to think for yourselves.
- The last thing they have in common with SEIU is that they care more about their personal grudges and desire for vengeance than they do about your welfare.
Your current Board of Governors has worked long and hard and employed experienced and competent labor professionals to correct the massive corruption fostered by these ex-Governors. The success of your current democratically-elected Governors is easily measured by EAA"s MOU's, representation successes, and standing in the labor community.
Remember, there are reasons those 8 individuals are ex-.
