SEPTEMBER 3, 2008 -Thousands of SEIU members are expected to protest spreading corruption. This is the word in the Counter Punch article linked below. It reports that the head of SEIU Local 721 has never been directly elected by the rank-and-file to any SEIU office.

Counter Punch states "SEIU leaders collect inflated salaries, tolerate executive board double-dipping, and ignore casual looting of local treasuries, until membership or media whistle-blowing forces them to announce a clean-up."

In discussing SEIU elections, they noted that to run for president in the SEIU megalocals, a member must obtain 4,800 signatures in only 3 weeks. They note that SEIU second-in-command Anna Berger, in a rally for the free-choice act, talked about employers, but didn’t talk about whether SEIU members deserve a voice in their own union.
