SEPTEMBER 17, 2008 - Internal emails show top SEIU staffers seeking to undermine dissidents in contested union election, says the San Francisco Bay Guardian in an older article. SEIU apparently violated its own union rules by working to influence an important San Francisco delegate election. This demonstrated a concerted effort by Stern’s senior staff and local loyalists to stifle criticism of Andy Stern and his autocratic rule over SEIU and its locals.
Once again, this shows the widespread dissatisfaction within SEIU over the lack of member input and control over their own fates. But it seems to be a way of life at SEIU. That is how SEIU can abandon the age-old proven union method of in-the-workplace labor representatives (business agents) and replace it with call centers covering a vast array of MOU’s and members. Members would never vote for this arrangement, but are now having it implemented by executive fiat.
