SEIU Los Angeles Local Paid Tens of Thousands to SEIU Presidents Relatives

AUGUST 9, 2008 - The Los Angeles Times reports questionable expenditures by SEIU local based in Los Angeles. The Times reports that SEIU has paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to firms owned by the wife and mother-in-law of the labor organization's president. SEIU also spent nearly $300,000 of its low-wage earning members' dues last year on a Four Seasons Resorts golf tournament, a Beverly Hills cigar club, restaurants such as Morton's steakhouse and a consulting contract with the William Morris Agency, the Hollywood talent shop. Also, a minor league basketball team coached by the president's brother-in-law received $16,000 for what SEIU described as "public relations".

We at EAA ask what these expenditures of SEIU members' hard earned money has to do with improving the wages and conditions of employment? How does this relate to the number one union job to represent its members? Since SEIU charges two and one-half (2-1/2) times the dues that EAA charges, sufficient SEIU funds are apparently available to satisfy any SEIU personal agenda.
