SEIU Eliminates Local Control for 4 Locals in California

In yet another defeat for democracy in unions, SEIU established a "District Council", which has total control of negotiations, dues, grievances, MOU's, and all other aspects of the "Local" function. Andy Stern, SEIU International President, appointed all 26 officers for 4 years, thus eliminating all semblance of democracy. It appears this may become the case for all locals and mega-locals in SEIU everywhere.

"Anyone who believes in democracy should avoid SEIU like the (purple) plague." The council "takes over dues and assessments. Without independent access to money, local members lose control over their own locals. The handling of grievances and the processing of charges and trials are removed a greater distance away from the membership. The council dominates the locals; the international president, through his appointive power, dominates the council. . .
