SEIU/COALITION ROLLS OVER
Friday, Sep 18, 2009City Administrative Officer Miguel Santana announced to the City Council today that the City has reached an agreement with the Coalition of City Unions. In this agreement SEIU/COCU’s have made hard money concessions that will result in at least $78 million in savings to the City in fiscal year 09/10. With respect to the ERIP, Santana reported SEIU/COCU’s agreed to increase active employee contributions to 7%. SEIU/COCU broke new ground requiring that ERIP recipients agree to sacrifice 1% of their retirement benefit for the rest of their lives. Santana noted that the $78 million in givebacks from SEIU/COCU is only a start point and they committed to meet monthly to identify additional concessions management may require. This agreement with the City of Coalition Unions will allow for permanent reductions in City staffing and furloughs according to Santana.
