AUGUST 12, 2008 - The Los Angeles Times reports that officials and advocates are calling for an investigation into the spending by the Los Angeles based SEIU local that represents low-wage earners in health care. The story was first broken by the Times on August 9, 2008 and that story is referenced on the EAA home page.
Tyrone Freeman, president of the SEIU local, was appointed to that position by the SEIU National when several SEIU locals were consolidated into a mega-local, a typical procedure in SEIU. The spending in question was hundreds of thousands of dollars of SEIU members' dues paid to relatives of Freeman.
