AUGUST 12, 2008 - The Los Angeles Times reports that officials and advocates are calling for an investigation into the spending by the Los Angeles based SEIU local that represents low-wage earners in health care. Tyrone Freeman, president of the SEIU local, was appointed to that position by the SEIU National when several SEIU locals were consolidated into a mega-local, a typical procedure in SEIU. The spending in question was hundreds of thousands of dollars of SEIU members' dues paid to relatives of Freeman.
