EAA Union

Governor Eric Gilbertsen

Eric Gilbertsen is your Governor for the Supervisory Technical Unit, MOU 19.  He is a Senior Survey Supervisor at the Port of Los Angeles, giving EAA a needed presence in the southern part of our City.  Eric is one of your newest Governors and has jumped in with both feet by serving on the Constitution and By-Laws Committee and the Union Stewards and Membership Committee.  Eric particularly desired to be active with the Stewards as he previously served the membership of the Public Works Department as a Steward for two years.

As a Steward and Governor, Eric enjoys assisting his fellow City employees in improving working conditions and maintaining high standards for all.  He believes that excellent working conditions create happy employees, who are much better able to concentrate on performing their jobs well and increasing the value of their services to the citizens.  This is a true win-win-win situation.

Eric is a licensed land surveyor and began his 27-year career as a surveyor before joining the City of Los Angeles in 1994.  The precision and attention to detail required of a surveyor provides useful skills for representing and leading EAA members as a Governor.  In addition to his work as a surveyor, Eric was a member of the United States Marine Corps for six years.  Thank you for your service!

Eric is family oriented and is the proud father of two girls, one near each end of the teen years (12 and 18).  He, his wife, and daughters enjoy such activities as camping, hiking, sports of all types, and gardening.  Consistent with his orientation towards serving others, Eric served as a volunteer for the Charter Oaks High School Marching Regiment Booster Club for 4 years, including one year as treasurer.

Eric is committed to increasing the involvement of EAA members in their union as any union is only as strong as its membership and their participation.  He pledges to work tirelessly for the best contract that can possibly be obtained in the current and future rounds of negotiations.  He wants to help EAA assume a greater leadership role among City unions and to keep our Union on its solid financial and representational footing while working on improvements where needed.  He encourages every EAA member to become involved by searching out answers to their questions and communicating their concerns to the proper elected representatives - the Governors.
