Los Angeles City Council dominates the local news sources

As expected, the Council failed to make a decision yesterday.  This non-decision is good news for City employees, at least temporarily.  We all will see what develops long-term.  The three linked news items display the impressions of the writers at the Los Angeles Times, Daily News, and LA Weekly.

SHARED SACRIFICE NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE FOR OCTOBER 15

The EAA negotiating team met with the CAO's representative Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Your negotiating team has attempted to explore any possible way to move these negotiations forward. We continue to encounter resistance from management in getting answers to the simplest questions.

We met with the CAO’s representative today. He informed us that they are continuing talks regarding the details of the SEIU/COCU deal and it is not finalized.

Your negotiating team met on Thursday, September 17th, with the CAO's representative. We pursued previous requests for additional information regarding the "Shared Sacrifice" of all other City bargaining units to determine that their "Shared Sacrifice" quota is equivalent to ours.

There have been discussions with the CAO and with individual City Council members regarding (1) EAA members who work in positions that generate / collect City revenue; and (2) EAA members who work in positions that are fee-based / grant- or bond-funded / special-funded.

SHARED SACRIFICE NEGOTIATION UPDATE - I - AUGUST 13

 At today’s meeting the CAO was still unable to answer fundamental questions regarding the quantification of savings and their application toward achievement of the 10% salary bill savings, which has been determined by the CAO to be $56.3 million for EAA for FY 09/10.
