MOU Negotiations Update for March 31, 2010

In accordance with Article 1.6 of its existing MOUs, EAA presented its proposals for the successor MOUs to the CAO on March 31, 2010.  Meet and confer sessions are to begin within 30 calendar days after the presentation of proposals.

Union News Update for the End of the Month

The big news this week is the continuing celebration of Cesar Chavez’s birthday (today).  We also link interesting and informative news about unions in general.  Many of our issues also occur with other unions and other employers.  EAA believes its members benefit from reading of the experiences of others.

The Mayor Proposes 1,200 to 2,000 Additional Layoffs

In a meeting with the Los Angeles Times editorial board, the Mayor stated that layoffs are his only tool since the City Council continues to avoid acting to solve the budgetary crisis.

City Controller Releases Budgetary Cash Flow Memo

In attachment 2, the Controller details two possible end of year scenarios to balance the budget: “Take $199 million from the Reserve Fund" [or] "Not pay employees for the last 4 weeks of the fiscal year".  [These possibilities are a direct result of the Mayor and City Council putting off their day of reckoning as long as possible in hopes that it would go away.]

We report the news that we have found this week about unions, but seem to have only found negative news items for SEIU with positives for other unions.   We will continue to publish these for the benefit of all City employees, since we are certain SEIU does not publicize these facts.
